During the mid-semester break, submitted the final report and getting prepared for the presentation. The presentation is going to be a very nervous day and also the judgement day for me. Hopefully all will be going well for me and supervisor also give me advice to get prepare for the final presentation and has to be very strong as I will needed to not only approval from the supervisor but as well as the approval from other lecturer as well.
Getting prepare for the presentation and hopefully the report will be smooth and good enough.
Expect the worst and hope for the Best. Just in case if needed any resubmission, it still can be done to improve the project however that's the least wanted from me.
Strong presentation will helps getting my project ahead and getting approval by the lecturers.

19th Class (26th September 2012)
Installation of the camera in the front grill of the vehicle require a bracket that will hold on to the camera firm and also on the front grill of the vehicle. According to the dimension of the camera, I've design the bracket for the camera.
With the specification and dimension of the camera, this bracket will be use to install the camera on to the trucks in front of the vehicle grill. The strength of the bracket and bolt will hold tight on to the bracket and the front grill of the trucks.
The wiring diagram has also been drawn and final report is moving to it's near end. Proposal for the government has also been written and getting prepare to send. Unfortunately, the camera still can't get on hand as the price negotiate is too high and there's no reply from the seller as well.

18th Class (12th September 2012)
Back from investigation of Australia and it seems that the road in Australia is indeed very long and wide. Furthermore when it's raining or foggy it does really reduce the visibility of the driver greatly. This is all the hazards found while driving on the road in Australia.
From the picture I took above it seems that it's very vulnerable for the animals to cross the road easily and especially during night time, the light of the driver will easily distract the animal and animal could jump out from the bushes any time.
Both picture above shows when heavy raining and foggy weather the driver will have difficulties in seeing the road ahead and identify the hazards on the road. Obstacles in front of the vehicle will not be seen by the drivers and especially for truck drivers, they require even further distance ahead of the vehicle to successfully stop the trucks.

Both picture above shows when heavy raining and foggy weather the driver will have difficulties in seeing the road ahead and identify the hazards on the road. Obstacles in front of the vehicle will not be seen by the drivers and especially for truck drivers, they require even further distance ahead of the vehicle to successfully stop the trucks.
Thermal camera will be a great assist for the driver and increase the safety of the driver while driving on the road as well as provide safety place for the wild animals in Australia.
17th Class (22th August 2012)
Submitted the interim report and next steps will be visiting Australia to get some practical proof on difficulties of the driver driving in Australia. The longer the driver of the trucks stays on the road, the longer it is expose to accident risk as longer time will not only reduce the fatigue of the driver and slows down the reaction of the driver. Visibility impair by the weather condition, rain and foggy which is quite common in Australia will increase the fatigue of the driver and also the risk of accident on the road as well.
After the investigation, proposal for the government will be the next steps to take and also the marketing and overall cost that required by this system will be calculated. Hoping to get more results on the practical in assisting my project to get a better proof to convince the Australian Government as well. Investigation will be carry out in Tasmania and Victoria state to determine the road condition in Australia.

Consideration on how to install the camera comes into my mind and been hope to get a good price on the camera will surely helps in my project. The camera itself is expensive and hopefully I can get the camera on hands.
The installation of the camera is quite easy with some consideration on the electrical diagram is required such as the fuse needed to be included in the electrical connection to prevent damage onto the camera and the monitor screen in case of any short circuits on the electrical connection.

Winter's holiday is over and it's time to get back to reality and continue with the project progress.Visiting to Australia will be made on the next mid-semester break and from there a clearer version of the situation will be able to observe on Australia.
Research on the camera done and starting with the interim report. It seems that the camera uses the Seebeck Effect where difference in two conductor will create a voltage. The amount of voltage that creates will determine how hot and cold the object and from there the camera will be able to differentiate the object detected is either a stationary or a moving objects or living.
Human will release body heat as well as animals. Moving vehicles will also have heat dissipate from the engine and will alert the driver through the monitor screen connected to the camera. The image scan by the camera will tell the driver if the objects is an animal, a vehicle or people walking or cycling in front of the trucks.
Furthermore this camera will increase the driver's vision ahead and informs the driver if there;'s a moving object ahead of the vehicle. Done the initial progress report and hand into the Student Central. Next week will be the semester break and still even during the holiday, progress of the project never stops. Hopefully that all will be going smoothly. Future plan of the project is added and planning to contact the seller of the PathFindIR camera to get a good price on it to enable in inspect on the camera detail for my project.
Next planning is also going to be Australia and to investigate the road condition and the weather condition that affects the driver's vision on the road. Practically will helps in understand my project and also the evaluation of the project as well. How good will the camera assist in the driver's vision will be the key point of this project.
Next writing the proposal for the Australian Government will also assist my project to be successful. Approval from the Australian Government will be a big leap for my project to be implemented into Australia and helps improve the road safety in Australia.

Further research on the camera has been made and found out that the FLIR PathFindIR is actually the uncooled thermal camera. Uncooled thermal camera is where this camera does not require a cooling device in the camera to cool off the camera. As for cooled thermal camera, a cooling system is require to prevent the camera to overflow with the head absorption that will cause visual impair to the camera itself.
It seems that uncooled thermal camera is also use in country customs during the severe sickness of the H1N1 flu where passengers were scan by the thermal camera to detect the unusual change of temperature in one's body and to prevent the spread of the virus.
As to how the camera scan will be another detail research that I've to do and sometimes it's very amazing how advance a technology is which extend to where our imaginary ideas is becoming reality. Innovation and creativity will really improve the life style of human as development of technology will never stops as long as people are having curiosity attitude stays in them.

After more research on the animals been done, supervisor given me advice on also research the rules and regulation in Australia especially on the road. I wander why the road rules will affect with the camera that I've come up with and its clear up my question after the explanation from my supervisor.
Speed limit is one of the factor that cause the driver to be speeding, which leads to long distance in stopping the trucks. As we know, trucks requires a longer stopping distance in order to bring the trucks to a complete stop and increasing the visibility of the driver will surely brings a great help for the driver.
Supervisor told me that in some area in Australia does not have any speed limit where this reason will brings the driver to drive the trucks in high speed to reduce the time taken on the road that will increase the fatigue of the driver.
Another issue has come up with my consideration... Driver's Fatigue. That's another factor as well... improving or assisting the driver vision will also decrease the fatigue of the truck driver as less eye concentration on the road ahead is needed and driver can just view the condition of the road ahead with the assistance of the camera.

Been covering almost much of the initial progress report, achievement of the project also included in the report which I do hope by introducing the need of the thermal imaging camera on trucks that travels in long distance in Australia will reduce the percentage of collision between the road user and the animals which will reduce the injuries as well as death toll towards road user and animals.
Having lesser accident will also decrease the damage of the road properties that will help in reducing the cost and expenses and also driver will be much more alert during dusk and dawn time in Australia.
From research found out that, animals frequent roaming around the road at dusk and dawn time as the light starting to come up or starting dies off, animals will improve their activities to hunt for food before it's going to be completely dark or waking up from the night time sleep. Proposal approved! Research on the camera is continuing. Supervisor given some advice on doing the initial report as in the project plan, the future plan and also the people that my project is targeting.
Got some point covered as in the targeting people of my project will be the trucks that travelling in long distance in Australia. While next have to start to progress on my initial report before the semester ends. project plan on how I'm going to do which I've to plan and get the project on track.
Get all the statistic I can on Australia accidents rates and hope to get it supported on my project. Found out that thermal camera really is helping a lot of driver in controlling the vehicle in their wanted manner and also avoid unnecessary accident happens. During night time, it was really dark on the road especially on rural area as there will not have any lamp post to shine the road as if even there is..... it would be 1 lamp post in every kilometres which is a big gap in between for the dark to attack the vision of the driver.

Happy Anzac Day. Today is Anzac Day for New Zealand and is a public holiday. However, progress for the project never a holiday as progress have to be go on to get project done by the end of the year.
Still await for the proposal approval but will somehow get it approve and starts off with my research on the camera. Submitted my proposal and hopefully will gain approval from supervisor. Well I suppose that the approval will go smoothly. Heard from my supervisor that we are the lucky one as we didn't have to present the proposal while the semester next of us will have to present their proposal in order to get the proposal approve by the lecturer. As I'm a stage fright person, this will ease some of my worries.
Next is to get on with research of the thermal camera. There are a lot of thermal camera out in the market but as to choose the correct and best thermal camera to be fitted on to trucks and extract the best potential of the camera to fully assist the drivers.
From this stage, I've learn that coming up with idea is somehow a bit challenging for me and idea that required needed to be not only concept or theory but a more realistic project to greatly improves one's knowledge and skill also with the management of the time given.

Next idea has been caught up from my mind is that leg disabilities will be able to control the acceleration and brake of the vehicle by implementing the motorcycle hand operated concept into the car. With the turning of the handle will accelerates the vehicle while a brake level is attached on it to slow down or brakes the vehicle.
Get rejection where a newer improve existing technology which is the joy sticks manuevering the vehicle. Current existing technology that the vehicle is control with the electronic joystick which seems to be better than my mechanical control.
No worries on that as I've another idea where I would implement a thermal camera system on to trucks into Australia as lately I've been contacting with my sis whom she is at Australia currently told me that involvement of animals collision with vehicle happens a lot in Australia. Apply thermal camera on car will assist the vision of the driver and will avoid the collision with the animal crossing at night.
Supervisor give me an idea by not only implement on the vehicle but to implement on trucks in long distance travelling which will aid much more better than only the cars. This gives me a good idea that applying on the trucks really helps to reduce the accident rate in Australia.
Got my idea approve so right now head start off with my proposal writing and will be done for my industry project before mid semester break kicks in.

Meet up with my supervisor and appeal the disabilities idea. However, my idea was a good one but with the consideration of the body angle of the human, it's going to be difficult for a human body to turn the steering wheel in full rotation with the left leg and this will cause the obstruction movement of the human body.
A full rotation of the steering using legs will be impossible and would further increase the risk for the accidents to happen. After taking in to deep consideration, it appear that this project of apply steering wheel on the floor panel is not going to work as what the theory and concept that I've had in mind.
But nevertheless, no failure will be no successful Just come up with another idea that would counter this idea and getting it to approve. Still thinking the ways to help out the disabilities as this would clearly help their daily live and ease their hardship.

After some research had been done, there are already some existing which helps the disabilities to drive such as a rotatable knob is place on the steering wheel to assist the turning of the wheel and also remote control of the acceleration and brake system for the vehicle for leg disabilities which enable the disabilities to control through their hands.
Thinking of having the steering wheel on the floor panel might help ease the disability people to manuever the vehicle with anti slip material on the vehicle steering wheel. Shorter steering column is require to connect the steering wheel to the steering rack and to turn the wheels of the vehicle.

Meeting up with supervisor and came up with an idea on disabilities. Wandering how disabilities able to drive a car which helps them to travel from one place to another. I heard one of my classmate said that there are some disabilities can drive a vehicle despite having no legs or arms to help them operate the vehicle. Modification on the vehicle has done to enable the disabilities to drive the vehicle.
Came up with an idea where people with disabilities arms where the steering wheel is place near to foot paddle on the left side which helps them to control the vehicle. Was that a good idea to go with but as for now... I've better start off with some research on that and come up with good proposal.

3rd Class (6th March 2012)
Today we have a class regarding to how we plan for our industry project. We have to make a Gantt Chart and also our reflective writing as well. Preparing a Gantt Chart just like in Technology Project will in a way helps us to plan our project properly and have a smooth project doing in the future. It's like doing a time table and helping ourselves to not procrastinate ourself as well.
Meet up with some classmate and we together discuss about the overall class and what we have to do in future for our project. Some of them already have an idea to propose to their supervisor and I do hope I too get an idea as well. Have some opinion from other lecturer about what we should do on our industry project as this will be a part of our own product or idea or project that will help when we head out to the society.

2nd Class (29th Feb 2012)
Meeting with our course lecturer (Jone) to get another detail idea how industry project will flow for the next year and the rest of the semester. Starting off the class with coming with a new idea and once the idea has been roughly on piece of paper draft and getting an approval by supervisor, proposal writing will be the next task that we have to come up with.
Writing a proposal was the first for me and writing a standard proposal will require a lot of research through the internet as well as the referencing of books. But before the proposal, brain storming an idea is going to be the next task that we required to move on. I wander what good idea will be used in my this industry project which will help me to get ahead of myself and improve my knowledge and skill.

THis is the blog for my industry project. The first class with Andy Pivac was a good start and I at least have a rough idea how Indsustry Project will go. Now starting to brain storm for a new idea again.
It's been so much brain storming of new idea the time when I start this course which takes my mind working all the time. So hopefully in this subject I will get a hold of everything and come up with a good project to proceed on... Head Cracking season starts off....
